What-is-Repentance

To repent is to make correction and go back to God’s ways. The purpose of repentance is to make continual correction in your life by applying what you learn from seeking God, in order to prepare for the Kingdom of God. It is a lifelong journey! Repentance is a part of life as a disciple of Jesus. It is used to make correction in every step of growth in a persons life. It is a tool used to grow closer to Jesus, and to know God better.

As you study the Bible and learn what sin is, you should be looking for opportunities for growth in your life and find ways to apply what you are learning in a practical way. James 1:22 says “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

It is also important to understand the goal of the Gospel Message is: “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is near” (Matthew 3:2). To repent also means to “turn back”. To repent is to humble your heart, confess your sin, to stop the sin. It also is to regret the sin, and then work to make the wrongs right. (Leviticus 26:40-45)
